Mentalab
Explore+
A versatile, high-end mobile EEG system for research and bio-medical recordings that provides exquisite precision in a portable format
Powerful EEG amplifier
Everything you would expect from a research-grade EEG amplifier. We know data is key to your work, so we make sure you get the best data you can.
Up to 32 channels plus 9-D motion sensor
1 kHz streaming, 2kHz offline recording
True DC ExG with 24-bit resolution
Wired and wireless triggers (ms accuracy)
Flexible modular design
Designed to fit into any ExG experiment, Mentalab Explore is completely configurable, and our open-source software is free to use and improve.
Free and open-source software
APIs in Python, Java, and Android
Modular design adapts to any setup
Integrate with all common analysis platforms
Truly mobile hardware
Mentalab was founded because EEG technology was not keeping up with consumer tech. So we created the smallest EEG device on the market.
Attach anywhere, feel nothing (amplifier weighs 27g)
Stream wireless data via Bluetooth (> 10m range)
Record up to 12 hours in one session
Remote firmware updates
Mentalab Explore+ is used across disciplines
Mentalab was started to help researchers do their work. Here are some of the research areas that benefit from Mentalab Explore.
Cognitive neuroscience
Use ExG (EEG, EOG, ECG, EMG) to explore aspects of human behavior, including brain and heart activity. Our wearable EEG amplifier gives easy access to bio-signal data.
Brain computer interfaces
Process EEG signals in real time and translate biomarkers into commands for machines, robotics, or other data consumers. Leverage our open-source software and raw-data stream at up to 1kHz.
Neurodevelopment
Investigate brain development with a non-intrusive ExG amplifier that children can wear and quickly forget. Then, quickly remove artifacts using your preferred data pipeline.
Sleep
Because the Explore+ amplifier has such a low footprint, it can be used to record sleep biomarkers without disturbing the sleeper. Record EEG and ECG simultaneously using device that weighs 27g.

Electrodes and Caps
Mix and match your set-up with our high-quality electrodes and caps.
Caps
Our caps are made from stretchy neoprene and come in six sizes so that your participants can enjoy the most comfortable and non-intrusive experience possible.
Electrodes
All of our electrodes are coated in soft Ag/AgCl, combining excellent comfort with optimal data acquisition. Choose from flat, wet, dry and brush types.
Cables
To reduce latency and noise, and maximise flexibility, we offer a range of cable lengths. Whether you are working in neurodevelopment or sports research, we provide cables to suit your needs.

P300 Paradigm Data Sample
Here, the participant was presented with a series of blue squares. One in five of these stimuli, however, was a red oval: the “oddball”. Participants were asked to press the spacebar when the oddball appeared.
This paradigm elicited event-related potentials around 300 ms after the oddball stimulus appears. The following link provides the EEG, motion and marker data for this experiment in three separate files (CSV format).
SSVEP Classifier Data Sample
Here, the participant was presented with four stimuli, each flickering at a different frequency. The participant fixated on one of these stimuli, and the SSVEP classifier predicted which stimulus was being looked at.
SSVEPs are brain signals that occur in response to a visual stimulus flickering at a fixed frequency. The following link provides the EEG, motion and marker data for this experiment in three separate files (CSV format).
Exercise EMG Data Sample
Here, the participant extended their fingers, while the sensors were positioned on the fore arm and upper arm. Explore recorded EMG data, motion data (accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope), and markers.
The following link provides the EMG, motion and marker data in three separate files (CSV format).
Outdoor EEG Data Sample
Here, the participant moved around outside, while data transmitted wirelessly via Bluetooth. Mentalab Explore recorded EEG data and motion data (accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope).
The following link provides the EEG and motion data in two separate files
(EDF format).
Don’t take our word for it
We are proud to work with world-leading institutions and expert clinicians. It is their work
that drives the development of our mobile EEG system.
